Series B ROOTS® meters are designed to measure the volume of gases and gas mixtures with a high degree of accuracy. Suitable for custody transfer applications, the industry accepted rotary type positive displacement operating principle ensures permanent, non-adjustable accuracy by using precision machined impellers encased within a rigid measuring chamber.
A complete line of rotary meter sizes are available to measure a wide range of gas volumes for most commercial and industrial applications.

Differential Pressure Testing
Throughout the history of ROOTS Gas Meters, a variety of different tests have been employed for field testing the meters. Perhaps the oldest and most efficient method of testing ROOTS Meters is by measuring the pressure drop from the inlet to the outlet of the meter. This method is known as differential testing.

Meter Sizing Guide
Gas Laws
Imperial Sizes
Metric Sizes
Series 3 Indexes are designed for low maintenance, a long service life and offer interchangeability among Series B meter bodies of the same size. The units are permanently lubricated for long life and virtually maintenance-free operation. The modular design of Series 3 indexes allows a quick, cost effective change to a different versions.
Non Compensated
Counter (CTR)
An 8 digit non-compensated index registers displaced volume in Actual Cubic Feet (ACF) or in Actual Cubic Meters (m3).
Counter with Instrument Drive (CD)
The Universal Instrument Drive (ID) Assembly adapts to the Series 3 CTR index for installation of a corrector, chart recorder, or other externally mounted, mechanically driven device. The ID Assembly is mechanically linked to the mechanical CTR gear reduction unit. One revolution of the instrument drive dog represents a specific displaced volume measured by the meter.
Counter with Low Frequency Pulser (ICPW)
The Series 3 solid state pulser mounts directly to a CTR Unit and generates low frequency pulses representing volumetric information for remote reading. Mechanical switches have been eliminated for maximum reliability. No battery or maintenance is required.
Counter with High Frequency Pulser (ICEX)
Provides a non-compensated, high frequency pulse output suitable for both volumetric and flow rate determination. Mechanical switches have been eliminated for maximum reliability. No battery or maintenance is required. The ICEX is available factory installed or as a field installable conversion kit.
Counter with AMR Adapter
Dresser’s residential Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Adapter for the Series 3 CTR provides a mounting location for a variety of industry leading AMR devices. The AMR Adapter is available as a conversion kit for field installation or factory installed on new meters or Series 3 CTR indexes.
Temperature Compensated Index
Temperature Compensated Counter (TC)
Temperature compensation is available in meter sizes 8C-16M. The Series 3 index provides a mechanically computed temperature compensated by utilizing a spiral bi-metallic thermocouple (probe) located in a sealed temperature well at the meter inlet. Series 3 TC indexes provide corrected gas volume readings to a 60˚F (15˚C) base temperature for readout in Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) or Normal meters cubed (Nm3) between flowing temperatures of -20˚F and +120˚F (-29˚C and + 49˚C).
Temperature Compensated Counter with Instrument Drive (TD)
The Universal Instrument Drive (ID) Assembly adapts to the Series 3 TC index for installation of a corrector, chart recorder, or other externally mounted, mechanically driven device. The ID Assembly is mechanically linked to the mechanical TC gear reduction unit. One revolution of the instrument drive dog represents a specific displaced volume measured by the meter.

Temperature Compensated Counter with Low Frequency Pulser (ITPW)
The Series 3 solid state pulser mounts directly to a TC Unit and generates low frequency pulses representing both Temperature Compensated and Non-Compensated volumetric information for remote reading. Mechanical switches have been eliminated for maximum reliability. No battery or maintenance is required.
Temperature Compensated Counter with AMR Adapter
Dresser’s residential Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Adapter for the Series 3 TC provides a mounting location for a variety of industry leading AMR devices, utilized for the collection of temperature compensated volume readings. The AMR Adapter is available as a conversion kit for field installation or factory installed on new meters or Series 3 CTR indexes.
Series 4 Index (ECTR)
Non-Compensated Counter Version
The Series 4 index incorporates engineered polymer with added Teflon for extreme resistance to wear. The permanently lubricated, oil free design eliminates maintenance and assures a long life expectancy as composite gear material offers lower friction and eliminates corrosion issues. The durable, one piece molded Lexan® cover features a larger viewing window for the odometer. The Series 4 non-Compensated index can be rotated 355° for easy-to-read positioning.
HF/LF Pulser Version
Series 4 indexes are provided pulser ready for quick adaption to a Low Frequency pulse output. Two ports are available for the pulse generators which provide low frequency pulses representing volumetric information for remote readings. An optional high frequency pulse generator provides a high frequency pulse output suitable for both volumetric and flow rate determination.
Integral Micro Corrector
PTZ Micro Corrector
The ROOTS Micro Corrector, model IMC/W2, is the only integral corrector rated for Division 1 hazardous locations. The SmartProve™ Interface not only reduces meter and corrector test times by as much as 90%, but allows the meter and corrector to be tested as a complete measurement system.
DP Micro Corrector
The Differential Pressure (DP) Micro Corrector now offers an integrated solution, which monitors rotary meter health by constantly measuring the differential pressure drop across the meter. The DP Micro adds diagnostic features to the proven capabilities of the Integral Micro Corrector.

Special Service Meters
ROOTS® special service meters are continuous duty meters for measurement of gases where entrained liquids may be present and where the gas being measured may have a corrosive effect on some of the materials employed in meters of standard construction. Typical applications would be in a production pipeline with sour, wet gases or in a sewage treatment plant to measure gases produced by a sludge digester.
