Import Overview
Dresser Inc. relies on its ability to successfully import products for our manufacturing operations or to distribute them to customers around the world. Given the realm of our global presence, it is imperative that our business transactions follow government import regulations and supply chain security. Dresser is committed to compliance with all import laws, regulations, and requirements applicable to our business. This commitment extends from senior management to all employees involved in the importation and exportation of Dresser products.
Dresser’s core value is integrity. With this focus, we follow the World Customs Organization’s import control requirements by retaining qualified in-house Global Trade Compliance staff and through contracting the highest rated customs brokers, freight forwarders and third party consultants. These partners enable Dresser to have the highest standards which are visible to the Customs Authority and other government agencies.
Our goal is to deliver a secure and efficient supply chain operation at all levels, while ensuring an effective import compliance program. This includes using reasonable care in accurately declaring the tariff code, valuation, origin, quantity, duty preference, or any other element involved in our import declarations with Customs.
Our Suppliers
Suppliers play a key role in ensuring compliance for imported shipments and the security of our supply chain. As part of our supplier relationship, Dresser anticipates suppliers partnering with us to ensure compliance with all applicable import laws and regulations. To assist in the endeavor, Dresser issued the “Supplier Import Requirements Notice” that details import compliance information, including customs requirements, shipping address and security elements needed. This document, updated in 2009, reflects the new Importer Security Filing requirements that went into effect in January 2009 for imports destined for the United States. The requirements stipulate that suppliers must provide advance shipping information prior to the loading of ocean freight at the foreign port of export. Please contact your purchasing agent at Dresser for this notice.
Informed Compliance
Informed compliance is a shared responsibility between Customs and the Import community, wherein the Customs Authority effectively communicates its requirements to the trade. Dresser, as the Importer, is expected to use reasonable care to conduct our business activities in accordance with Import Laws and Regulations, along with the “Informed Compliance Publications” issued by the local importing Customs Authority.
